UTICA, NY- The Utica College women’s basketball team remained undefeated at home as it topped visiting Union College 64-60 in non-conference action Wednesday evening at the Harold T. Clark Gymnasium.
Utica moves to 5-0 on its home court and 5-4 overall as the Pioneers handed the Dutchwomen just their second loss of the season. Utica, winners of three straight, looks to carry its momentum into Empire 8 Conference play on Tuesday as it travels to Alfred University. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Senior Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) sunk a game-high five three-pointers, while sophomore Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) tallied her first career double-double to pace the Pioneers. Miceli finished with 18 points, three assists, and three steals to lead the way. Tripp totaled 10 points and added ten rebounds, including six off the offensive glass in 27 minutes of action.
Sophomores Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) and Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) also helped out as each scored in the double digits. Babb finished with 14 points, six boards, and three dishes off the bench, while Mayo totaled 10 points and three steals. Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West)had seven points, followed by Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) (four) and Christy Traglia(Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) (one).
Utica shot 41 percent from behind the arc, while Union was 0-for-7 on three pointers. The Pioneers also had an impressive day at the free throw line as they shot 76 percent, while Union was 14-for-20 (70%) from the line.
