UTICA, NY- The Utica College men’s basketball team remains home Tuesday night, as it hosts Morrisville State… Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers lost to Cortland State on Saturday in an 87-85 thriller… Senior Rob Tutein led Utica with 24 points, while classmate Jawan Simmons (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) chipped in with 16 points… Tutein, Simmons, and Ivon Iton finished with six rebounds each to lead UC.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP: Tutein and Simmons showed their experience on Saturday as they combined for 40 points on 15-for-27 shooting… Tutein was 9-for-16 from the field and 5-for-10 from three-point range, while Simmons was 6-for-11 from the field and 1-for-2 from beyond the arc… Both Tutein and Simmons led the team with 34 minutes each.
SOPHOMORE STANDOUTS: Ivon Iton, Carl Taylor (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), and Mike Cannizzo (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) all got starting nods for the Pioneers on Saturday… Iton and Taylor each started nine games last season for UC… The start on Saturday was the first of Cannizzo’s career… Iton finished Saturday’s game with eight points, six rebounds, and one assist… Taylor also finished with eight points to go along with three assists and two rebounds, while Cannizzo totaled six points and two assists.
FRESHMAN FOCUS: The Pioneers have 12 new faces on their roster this season, including 11 freshmen… Eight of those freshmen saw action on Saturday, with Devin Wilkerson (Germany/Apo Armed Forces-Europe) leading the way with nine points and five rebounds in 17 minutes… Seamus McHugh(Latham, NY/Shaker) chipped in with eight points, two rebounds, and one assist, while Stephen Gall(Bronx, NY/Benjamin Banneker) had six points and two rebounds.
TEAM EFFORT: The Pioneers had 14 different people play in Saturday’s game, with eight different players having at least six points… 10 different players had at least one rebound, and eight players dished out at least one assist… Utica shot 50% from the field on 32-of-64 shooting, as well as 44% from three-point range on 11-of-25 shooting.
SCOUTING MORRISVILLE: The Mustangs started off the season with a 64-61 win over Clarkson University on Friday… Trent Ward led Morrisville with 17 points… Ward also had four assists, three rebounds, and three steals… Qwuhail Barlow finished with 10 points, five assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block… Morrisville shot 51% on 25-for-49 shooting… The Mustangs also shot 46.2% from three-point range on 6-for-13 behind the arc.
