Syracuse – Last Sunday the 4th seeded Cooperstown Hawkeyes girls basketball team stunned top seeded and then state ranked #7 Weedsport in the Section 3 Class C semifinals at SRC Arena.
Thursday night the girls in orange made their way back to Syracuse and completed their improbable run to the Section 3 Championship by topping the 2nd seeded and state ranked #8 Little Falls Mounties by a score of 48-44 in the Carrier Dome.
Cooperstown received double digit scoring efforts from Kate Trosset (15) and Piper Seamon (14) in the upset win.
The Hawkeyes trailed by as many as 6 early on, but took the lead shortly before halftime and went into the intermission with a 27-23 advantage.
Kate Trosset, who displayed a nearly perfect running floater shot in the paint all evening long, went to the free throw line with 48 seconds remaining in the game and calmly swished both shots to give Cooperstown a 49-45 advantage, which they would not relinquish.
Little Falls, which finished a great season at (20-3) got 12 points from Olivia Langdon and 11 from Olivia Lindsay.
Cooperstown, which improved to (19-5) moves on to face the Section 4 Champion on March 10th in Binghamton.
