Syracuse – The Oriskany Redskins scored at least 1 run in all 6 innings that they batted on Tuesday and went on to defeat the Poland Tornadoes by a score of 10-2, to claim the 2018 Section 3 Class D Baseball Championship.
Oriskany (18-2) entered the Section 3 Tournament as the number 2 seed, while Poland, a sub .500 team during the regular season, was seeded second to last, at number 15.
The Tornadoes have been on an upset binge in the playoffs however, knocking off 4th seeded New York Mills, 8th seeded Madison and 12th seeded McGraw to reach the final.
John Longeretta got the win on the hill for Oriskany, allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits and had a big day at the plate as well, going 2 for 3, with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored. Aaron Drake went 3 for 4 at the dish for the Redskins, with 2 triples and an RBI.
Patrick Mahoney took the loss on the mound for Poland, which finished the season at (8-9).
Oriskany moves on to take on the Section VI winner at Mane Endwell High School this Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in State Regional Play.
