UTICA, NY- Three members of the Utica College softball team were named to the 2017 Empire 8 All-Conference teams, released Wednesday. Sophomore Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and freshman Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) each earned second team All-Conference accolades, while junior Kimberly Beattie (Levitton, NY/Division Ave) was named to the Sportswoman of the Year team.
Rice, who was an Honorable Mention last year, wrapped up the season leading the conference with a .480 batting average and a .529 on base percentage. The everyday second baseman led the team with 11 doubles, 14 walks, and nine stolen bases. She also was second on the squad with 24 RBIs and she had an impressive .949 fielding percentage.
Miller finished second on the squad with a .373 batting average and she was third in runs scored (18). Amongst starters, she ranked third with a .981 fielding percentage. Miller totaled 17 hits in the final 14 games of the season and her best outing was when she went 6-for-7 with four runs scored in a pair of wins over Union College.
Beattie was named the Pioneers’ representative on the Sportswoman of the Year team. One member of each team is selected for competing with honor and integrity as well as displaying the characteristics that make a good sportswoman. Beattie finished the season with a .232 average at the plate, with five runs scored and five RBIs.
Utica wrapped up the year with a 17-21 overall record. UC returns the core of its lineup as the Pioneers graduate just one senior.
