New Hartford Girls Soccer Season Ends With Semi-Final Loss

Chittenango – The New Hartford Spartans Girls Soccer Team had its run at a Class “A”, Section III title dashed on Tuesday night at Chittenango High School, with a 3-0 loss to 2015 NY State Class “A” runner-up – Jamesville – DeWitt.

New Hartford, the Tri-Valley League champions and the #3 seed in the Section 3 Tournament, finished another outstanding season at (13-5) overall. The Spartans went (11-0) in the TVL for the second straight season.

Tonight, Red Rams All-State striker Alex Catanzarite scored her 27th and 28th goals of the season, both in the first half. Tonia Kousmanidis added a goal for J-D, also in the opening half, to lead the prolific J-D attack.

New Hartford’s Gabby Hobika and Abby Buchholz combined for 8 saves on 11 shots. J-D keeper Katie Cappalletti was credited with one save on the evening.

The defending Section 3 Champion Red Rams, (16-2) have won 12 straight games, outscoring their opponents 70-5 over that unbeaten stretch.

Tonight’s shutout was the 10th in 18 games for second seeded J-D, which entered tonight’s game ranked #3 in the most recent NY State Sportswriters Association girls soccer poll. New Hartford entered play this evening ranked #13 in New York.

Jamesville- DeWitt will now move on to oppose East Syracuse – Minoa, the #1 seed in the Class “A” Tournament, on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at SUNY Cortland.
