New Hartford – The “Spartan Nation” student section alone may just pack the gym to the rafters at New Hartford High School Tuesday night,  for the early season boy’s basketball match up between the Proctor Raiders (1-3, 0-1) and the home standing Spartans (4-1, 0-0).

Word has it, that it was the cheering from that same student section that helped propel the Spartans past Utica Notre Dame, 84-80 in overtime last week.

While Proctor and NH were the teams pegged as the clear front runners for the TVL East title when the balls were rolled out a few weeks ago, its the upstart   Whitesboro Warriors (3-0 TVL) who are sitting alone at the top of East, after a mammoth 74-71 win over Proctor, the same night ND had the Spartans on the ropes.  The Rome Free Academy Black Knights (1-0, 2-2) are presently sitting with New Hartford in 2nd place, followed by Proctor.

If you don’t like big crowds, loud student sections or up close and personal basketball, you can catch tonight’s contest on ESPN Radio 99.1 FM (as well as ESPNUR.com and the ESPNUR App). New York State Broadcasters Association Award Winning play by play man Dave Peroni will be joined by “The Coach” Steve Heitz with the call of the game, which begins at 7 p.m.
