Deerfield, NY –  The Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and this weekend they will be celebrating in style, by hosting the New York State Firematics Championship Drill and Parade on August 18th and 19th.

First hosted in 1988, this will be the 6th time over the last 30 years that teams from across NY State have gathered in Deerfield for this event.   Over 50 Volunteer Fire Departments from Long Island to Buffalo will take part in firematics events on Saturday August 18th starting at 9:00 am.

The events will take place behind the fire station at 5476 Trenton Rd in Deerfield at the T. Raymond Ruskey Training Facility.  Competitions will range from foot races consisting of three man ladder, efficiency hose and the “Bucket Brigade” as well as many action packed motorized events with ladders, hoses, and pumps.

NYS Drill Teams is a professional league of volunteer firefighters from across New York who compete in firematics competitions.  These competitions are geared towards honing basic firefighting skills, developing and fostering team work, character building, commitment, discipline, physical fitness and conditioning. Participation in the league compliments each fire department’s primary function of emergency response to fires, medical emergencies, and other calamities, while instilling members with a lifelong commitment to serving their community as highly skilled Volunteer Firefighters.

Admission will be $10 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12 on Saturday with food and beverages available for sale throughout the day.

The participating departments will also be marching in the State Championship Parade on Sunday August 19th starting at 1:00 pm down Trenton Road in Deerfield.

There will be a large display of fire trucks / apparatus and more than 15 fire department marching bands will be performing.
