Hamilton, NY –  A Section III high school golf season that started indoors hitting into nets and putting on plastic carpets before transitioning into dodging raindrops and snowflakes out on the courses, came to a close on Saturday at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks Golf Course, where temperatures were hovering in the mid 80’s.

New Hartford’s Jack Angelucci, a senior from New Hartford,  overcame a 4 shot deficit after Thursday’s opening round to overtake Manlius – Pebble Hill’s Johnny Gruninger by a single shot, to capture 2018 Section III medalist honors.

After shooting an 8 over par opening round of 80, Angelucci sat in a tie for 3rd place with Whitesboro’s Sam DePasquale, 4 shots behind Gruninger. The field was cut from several dozen players down to 2o for Saturday’s final round.

On Saturday, Angelucci fired a blistering round of even par 72, to Gruninger’s 77, earning the Mercyhurst University recruit top honors in a field packed with talent.

The top 9 golfers from Saturday’s final round will now comprise Team Section III and head to Cornell University’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course to compete at the NYSPHSAA Championship, June 3rd and 4th.
