Pioneers Football / Track Star Invited to Lake Placid

UTICA, NY — Utica College student-athlete Nicodemus Gambill(Rochester, NY/East High) has qualified for the USA Bobsled & Skeleton rookie camp which will take place August 21-27, 2017 in Lake Placid, NY. Gambill qualified following his performance at a USA Bobsled & Skeleton combine in Lake Placid on June 24thwhere he was tested in the sprints, broad jump and shot toss.

Gambill has participated on the Utica College football and track & field teams over the course of the last four years and has one season of NCAA eligibility left in football and outdoor track & field.

He is a four-time NCAA Division III All-American and an eight-time national qualifier over the course of his sprinting career at Utica. He is a 12-time Empire 8 Conference Champion, a seven-time New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) Champion, and a four-time ECAC Division III Champion. He has also helped guide Utica to two consecutive Empire 8 Conference Outdoor Track & Field team championships.

On the football field he was named a D3football.com All-East Region Third Team selection as a kick returner. Last year he was an Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team pick and posted a single-season school-record of 711 kick return yards. He returned two kickoffs for a touchdown against Morrisville and Alfred. His average of 32.3 yards per kick return led the Empire 8 and ranked fifth nationally. He also set a new school-record with a 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Gambill was the top qualifier at his particular bobsled and skeleton combine in Lake Placid, qualifying with the fastest sprint times and posting respectable finishes in the broad jump and shot toss to earn 535 total points at the combine.
