Utica College Lands 7 on All-Academic Squads

UTICA, NY- Seven members of the Utica College water polo team were named to All-Academic teams by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, released Friday.

A total of 536 athletes were recognized (140 Outstanding, 210 Superior, 186 Excellent) across all divisions. To earn “outstanding” distinction, the student-athletes totaled a GPA of 3.71-4.0. For “superior” recognition, the student-athletes had a GPA of 3.41-3.70, while those on the “excellent” squad compiled a GPA of .320-3.40.

Courtney Kennedy (Long Island, NY), Meagan Stanton (Chemung, NY/Waverly), and Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) were named outstanding scholar-athletes. Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield), Krystiana Rehrig (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen), and Michalyn Winkler (Barto, PA/Upper Perkiomen High School) earned superior status, while Ashley Flint (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was marked with “excellent” distinction.

As a team, the Pioneers were also honored for earning a combined GPA of 3.16. Utica did not lose any players to graduation and will return leading scorers Krystiana Rehrig (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and Hnyla Sloan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge High School), as well as freshmen standouts Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) and Emily Czerwonka (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area). Michalyn Winkler (Barto, PA/Upper Perkiomen High School) will also return to backstop the Pioneers.
