Syracuse – After waiting nearly two hours for weather delays at Onondaga Community College on Thursday night, the West Canada Valley Indians finally took to the turf and knocked off the LaFargeville Red Knights by a score of 9-1, to claim the 2017 Section III Class D Softball Championship.
It was the first softball title since 1991 for the Lady Indians, who also avenged an 8-6 loss to LaFargeville in the 2016 Section 3 title game.
Kirsten Nicholson went 2 for 3 , with 2 RBI at the plate for the Lady Indians, who improved to (18-2) on the season.
Jordyn Conte continued her mastery in the pitching circle for West Canada, going all 7 innings, striking out 6 and allowing just 1 run.
The Lady Indians move on to NYSPHSAA Regional play tomorrow, where they will meet the State’s #2 ranked team, Heuvelton, at 7 p.m. at Carrier Park Field in DeWitt.
Congratulations to West Canada Valley and best of luck in state play!
